Cecilia Braekhus had to earn it, but she remains undefeated.

In the first-ever women’s bout broadcast on HBO, pound-for-pound queen Cecilia Braekhus was dropped for the first time in her career, but came off the canvas to keep her crown by unanimous decision over Kali Reis.

Braekhus (33-0, 9 KO) won on scores of 96-93, 96-93, and 97-92. BLH also had it 96-93. It was an entertaining, competitive fight, and Reis (13-7-1, 4 KO) gave Braekhus plenty to worry about with harder punches and a determined approach to the bout, never giving up on herself even after Braekhus seemed to find her rhythm after the opening round.

“I think she gave me a very, very tough fight. I think it was very close,” Braekhus said. “I think she had some very good, hard punches. It’s new to adjust to American gloves, and she’s heavier than me. I have to give her all the credit and all the honor for giving me such an amazing fight in the first female fight on HBO.”

Braekhus said she would do a rematch with Reis, saying she felt they made for a great fight for fans.

Braekhus landed 115 of 377 (31%) of her total punches, including 77 of 185 (42%) of her power shots. Reis landed 78 of 357 (22%) total punches, and 66 of 228 (29%) of her power punches.
