One of the most important, yet overlooked Heavyweight Champions of the 20th century. “Smokin’ Joe" rose from humble beginnings to capture the gold in 1970, and successfully defended the belt in 1971 against Muhammed Ali in what was considered as the most anticipated fight in boxing history, thus being billed “The Fight of the Century” (becoming the first man to defeat Ali in a pro bout). Frazier would retire from the sport in 1981, and would go on to train a new generation of fighters including his own son and daughter. Always proudly representing the city of Philadelphia, the “City of Brotherly Love” returned the favor in 2015 by erecting a statue in Frazier’s honor.
